If you are planning to undergo skin tightening treatments, you came to the right place. Here at Beauty Techniques, we will be sharing with you an article discussing everything you need to know about Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening. Before you decide on whether it is the right treatment for you, we encourage you to keep reading below so you will learn more information about it.
What is Fibroblast Plasma Skin Tightening?
One of the most well-known non-invasive skin tightening treatments, fibroblast plasma skin tightening, is a great alternative treatment for people who do not want to undergo traditional invasive surgery. This type of treatment has been effective in eliminating excess tissue on the skin that can cause sagging, wrinkles, stretch marks, and can also lessen scarring. It is an excellent choice if you do not want to be prone to risks, pain, and downtime that can be interrelated with the traditional invasive treatments, such as surgical treatments that involve the use of anesthesia and other invasive procedures.
As it is normal for humans to experience the natural process of aging, the dermal layer of the skin becomes thin. The body will then produce lesser collagen so the skin tends to lose its elasticity. We cannot do anything about it because it is a natural aging process so that’s why older individuals have wrinkles and sagging skin. Undergoing a skin tightening treatment like the fibroblast plasma skin tightening will help reduce the signs of aging as it helps tighten and lift the sagging skin of the client.
How Does it Work?
Fibroblast plasma skin tightening is done by using a plasma pen which releases micro charges of plasma energy. It will be applied to the client’s skin in a non-invasive way as there will be no incision involved. The plasma energy will cause the tissue to undergo sublimation in superficial levels which will result in eliminating excess tissue, therefore, removing wrinkles and saggy tissue.
What is the Sublimation of the Skin?
The skin is solid, and if it undergoes sublimation, it will turn into a gas without passing the liquid state. The plasma pen functions by focusing a microbeam of plasma energy on the specified treatment area. The skin that will be subjected to the plasma energy will retract and tighten. The sublimation of the extra tissues will result in the instantaneous tightening of the skin. As the micro wound heals, it will cause the body to produce more collagen to make the affected part plumper, tighten, and more firm to touch. This procedure is so precise it will only leave a 1-2 mm treatment spot.
Topical anesthesia is applied to the treatment area as the procedure can be a bit uncomfortable to some clients. A little bit of a burning sensation can be felt on the skin as it is subjected to plasma energy. The local anesthetic will help ease any discomfort that can be felt during the treatment.
What are the treatment areas recommended for fibroblast plasma skin tightening?
- Crow’s feet
- Fine lines and wrinkles on the neck and chest
- Forehead and frown lines
- Fine lines around the mouth
- Saggy skin on the neck
- Smoker’s lines
- Upper and lower eyelid sagging, eye bags, and fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
Who Can Undergo Plasma Skin Tightening?
The main type of person who can undergo plasma skin tightening is someone who is on the lower range of the Fitzpatrick skin scale. Individuals who have darker skin tones are not advised to undergo plasma skin tightening as they are prone to hyper or hypopigmentation. Individuals who have skin problems are not advised to undergo the treatment as well.
A client who has the following will not be considered as a good candidate for plasma skin tightening:
- Medical conditions that affect healing like uncontrolled Diabetes Mellitus, autoimmune diseases, oxygen dependence
- Sores on the skin that needs treatment
- Excess skin, stretch marks, deep scars, lupus, or scleroderma
- Clients who have undergone a cosmetic procedure in the area to be treated
- Individuals who are prone to keloid formation
- Those who have issues with vascularization or problems in the blood vessels or poor blood circulation
- Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not advised to undergo plasma skin tightening
Is It an Effective Form of Treatment?
During the plasma skin tightening treatment, the heat from the plasma energy that makes contact with the skin will cause collagen fibers to contract. This will result in immediate improvement in the skin’s plumpness and tightness, therefore, reducing the wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet.
Multiple treatments may be required if low-energy plasma skin tightening will be done, so if you want to experience better results such as visible and effective skin tightening, you will need to come in for treatments more often. On the other hand, high-energy treatments will need fewer treatments, but you can expect stronger side effects.
Some clients have undergone biopsies three months after their plasma skin tightening treatment and the results show that there is the continued formation of new collagen on the treatment area. Improvements in the skin have been observed to continue for more than a year, which resulted in tight and firm skin.
What Are the Possible Side Effects of the Treatment?
Severe side effects after the plasma skin tightening treatment are rare. Since it is a non-surgical procedure, there will be no damage to the skin as it does not involve incisions or cuts. Side effects are mild; the treatment area will be a small brown spot ranging from 1-2 mm in size and will clear up within a month. Plasma treatments do not result in visible demarcation lines.
The possible side effects that may occur after the treatment are the following:
- Mild skin redness of the treatment area that may last up to 2-3 weeks
- Skin peeling on the treatment area may last up to 9 days
- Localized hyperpigmentation or darkening of the treatment area that may last up to a month can be resolved with topical creams
What Happens During the Treatment?
Local anesthesia is applied to the treatment area before starting the plasma skin tightening treatment. If low-energy treatment will be used for the procedure, a topical anesthetic is used. If the treatment will be using high-energy settings, general anesthesia and an oral sedative will be given to the client.
The treatment area will be separated into small segments. After an hour, the topical anesthetic will be removed so the skin will absorb the plasma energy during the treatment. Each segment will be worked on one at a time. The plasma pen will be placed 5 mm away from the skin’s surface and is moved across the skin like you would a paintbrush.
The energy levels can be changed depending on the treatment area so the technician can control how the plasma energy will be applied to the skin. This can help prevent dermal injuries. Treatment areas that have thinner skin like the areas around the eyes will be subjected to treatment with lower energy compared to the other areas of the body like the cheeks, areas around the neck, mouth lines, or forehead.
Treatments that have low-energy settings of a single pass for every segment can be accomplished within 15 minutes. Treatment areas that will need high-energy settings or multiple passes in a single session can be accomplished in around 45 minutes. The client may experience mild discomfort and pain when the heat of the plasma pen passes over the surface of the skin or the treatment area.
When Can You See Results?
Depending on the affected part, most skin-tightening procedures produce results that are immediate and can be experienced after the procedure. The best results can be observed 6-8 weeks after the treatment. The results may last up to 9-18 months but it also may depend on the lifestyle choices and other factors that can cause skin aging or damage from sun exposure. If you want to experience optimum results, you must undergo more than one treatment with a minimum of six weeks in between treatments on the same affected area.
What to Do After the Procedure
After the procedure, the client may experience redness and swelling and it may last for a few days. Tiny dark brown spots can be seen on the affected skin after the procedure is done. A balm will be given after the treatment so you must apply it to the affected part. You must not scratch the dark spots and let them fall off naturally. After 5-7 days the dark spots may fall off and the skin may appear slightly red. Mineral makeup can be used two days after the treatment. Avoid sun exposure and apply sunscreen to protect your skin and allow it to heal naturally.
The recovery process after a plasma skin tightening treatment may last up to 7 days. The client can expect their skin to peel away as the epidermis will undergo epithelialization. Re-epithelialization occurs after the old skin peels away and will result in a new tighter epidermis. Recovery time will also depend on the amount of energy used during the treatment.
The results of the plasma skin tightening are permanent, but you must keep in mind that this procedure will not prevent your skin from natural aging or stop the damage caused by sun exposure. The skin’s firmness will be improved because of the collagen that will develop after the procedure, but the skin will still go through the natural aging process, which may include the breakdown of collagen, appearance of blemishes, wrinkles, etc.
