The beauty industry never stops evolving. Over time, it continues to offer you myriads of options that you can choose from if you want to keep that youthful glow. Furthermore, the demand for minimally-invasive procedures has brought about different treatment methods that have been proven to affect skin tightening, regeneration, and rejuvenation.

One such procedure is the non-surgical blepharoplasty. It is also called the Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening or plasma pen. If you are looking for an alternative procedure to Botox, this newer option in the beauty market might be the answer. This procedure is more effective, less invasive, and has longer-lasting results. It also is less expensive! Read on to learn more.

What is Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening?

The Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening is a revolutionary non-surgical technique that can be applied to target facial and body rejuvenation. It is considered to be a soft surgery procedure.

Soft surgeries are called such because these treatments offer similar results to traditional under-the-knife surgeries without scalpels or stitches. Hence, they come with lower risks, minimal downtime, and a more affordable price tag.

Fibroblast targets varied skin conditions such as sagging skin and wrinkles. These used to be addressed with Botox, fillers, and plastic surgery. But Plasma Skin Tightening has proven its effectiveness with skin’s loss of elasticity. It has been utilized successfully in non-surgical eye lifts, skin tag removals, tummy tightening, stretch marks, etc.

How does it work?

The Plasma Fibroblast treatment targets fibroblasts. These are the cells that produce collagen and protein in the inner layer of the skin called the dermis. Fibroblast cells hold an essential role in healing wounds and maintaining skin firmness and tightness.

The procedure utilizes a small electric charge transmitted through a tiny probe, called plasma or fibroblast pen. Neither touching nor penetrating the skin, the probe delivers immediate results with low to minimal pain. It issues high-frequency electric current to the small areas of the skin. These electric charges cause superficial micro-injuries to the skin’s upper dermal layer.

Heat is then transmitted into the inner layers of the skin, which allows new skin cells to generate or regenerate. The entire process stimulates the sleeping production of protein, collagen, and elastin fibers to start producing again. This fights off the aging process and generates rejuvenation of the skin.

Post-treatment, small dry spots may appear, which may form scabs. There is no need to worry as these will heal in five to seven days. They will fall off on their own. The only thing you need to do during this time is keeping your skin surface clean.

You will also be prescribed a topical cream that you can apply to protect the treated areas. Results are seen immediately after the procedure. Wait for three to four weeks and see the actual results. In addition, fibroblast results also last longer in comparison to Botox. Expect its results for at least two to three years.

What are the benefits?

As been mentioned, Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening targets wrinkles and sagging skin. It does these in a non-invasive, fast, and more effective approach. Among the benefits are:

It breaks down proteins in the skin, which can benefit seborrheic keratosis and lip filling, among others.
The treatment promotes tissue regeneration, hence, improves problems like acne scars and skin tags removal.
It stimulates fibroblast activity, which removes photoaging, age spots, and sun spots.
The procedure causes tissue tightening or contraction, thus addressing wrinkled skin, including worry lines, crow’s feet, smile lines, labial lines, upper and lower lids, cheeks, 11’s (between brows), ear lines, marionette lines, necklines, etc.

What happens in the procedure?

The procedure may vary from different centers offering the service, but typically, the basic steps include:
1. The skin will be cleansed, and a topical anesthetic (numbing) cream will be applied. A waiting time of 30 minutes is in place while the numbing cream takes effect.
2. The treatment proper will be done on the target skin area using the plasma pen. The pen will create small arcs of microcurrents that make small scab-like dots on the skin.
3. If necessary, there will be application of numbing cream and a cooling gel to minimize the potential sensations such as tingling and burning.

Depending on the size of the targeted area, the procedure usually only takes about 30 to 60 minutes to perform. After completing the procedure, expect the small dots to form scabs. These will fall off after about a week. As your skin heals over the next couple of weeks, it becomes tighter and firmer. Some people may reap benefits from a single treatment. Others may require two to three treatments before results are significant.

Who are the excellent candidates for the Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening procedure?

Anybody with mild-to-moderate skin wrinkling concerns is a good candidate for this procedure, except if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Have an allergy to topical anesthetic preparations.
  • Have swelling skin (dermatitis or eczema), severe acne, skin irritations, open wounds, severe skin condition, or any infection in the area to treat.
  • Are using acne medications for the past year.
  • Have a history of hyperpigmentation, sunburn, or tanning.
  • Have eyelash extensions. Please have them removed before your arrival. Have your lashes reapplied after eight weeks.
  • Have health conditions such as severe or uncontrolled diabetes, lymphatic draining issues, and auto-immune disorders, such as Lupus, Psoriasis, or Vitiligo. If you have a pacemaker or have undergone chemotherapy or radiation, you may not be an ideal candidate for this procedure.
  • Are taking blood thinners, please consult with your physician first.
  • Display any signs of Herpes Simplex Virus (cold sores or fever blisters) or have experienced Herpes Simplex Virus in the past. Please call your doctor and obtain a prescription for Valtrex.

In addition, if you have a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring, approach this procedure with caution. If you have darker complexions, you may also run the risk of hyperpigmentation. Moles and birthmark areas are not recommended for treatment as well.

What to do after the procedure?

Being a non-invasive procedure, Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening is safe. However, as with every treatment you undergo, proper healing is essential. It helps you to attain the maximum benefits of your treated skin.

You may experience slight side effects such as sensitivity, soreness, redness, mild hyperpigmentation, swelling, and little tenderness. Here is how you can take care of your skin in the healing process:

  • You don’t need to wash your skin 24 hours after treatment. Later on, use a mild, chemical, and fragrance-free cleanser.
  • Avoid applying makeup or anything on your skin for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
  • Stay out of the sun. If you must, ensure to apply sunscreen with SPF 30 formula for at least a month.
  • Flaking and scabbing are typical. Keep your skin hydrated with gentle, fragrance-free moisturizers and prescribed topical cream.
  • Refrain from using icepacks to soothe the swelling. Inflammation is good.
  • Similarly, do not take anti-inflammatory medications without consulting your dermatologist.
  • Avoid getting chemical peels or laser treatments for at least six to eight weeks after the session.
